Class Descriptions
Spinning - A 50 minute
cardiovascular challenge of simulated outdoor cycling. Instructors will
employ various themes and outdoor landscapes to motivate the class.
Music is used to set tempo and cadance on the bikes. Flat roads, hill
climbs , and jumps will be incorporated keeping riders lively on and off
their saddles. Spintroduction class is a prerequisite for all new person
interested in taking these classes.
Spin
& Abs - A full 45 minute
spin class followed immediately by 10 minutes of abdominals exercises
(optional) on mats placed next to spin bikes. Riders wanting to spin
only are welcome to do so and can skip the abs segment of the class.
Spin & Flex - 30 minutes of
interval focused spinning followed by 30 minutes of full body
conditioning moves. Conditioning moves will mainly use own body weight
and will focus on balance, strength, functionality and flexibility. For
the spinner who wants to improve total body conditioning and muscle
toning. Attention to upper body and core muscle groups make this class a
perfect adjunct to the spin junkie's routine. Get those abs and arms to
match the strong glutes, quads and hamstrings you've worked so hard to
develop. There will be a recommended 15 minute stretching session at the
end of the class.. SPIN SHOE USERS ARE ADVISED TO BRING SNEAKERS AS
WELL.
Spin & Build -
A workout for experienced riders that
combines strength training and and the well documented cardiovascular
benefit of spin. In only one hour, you will participate in an intense
interval ride including 30 minutes of spinning , and 30 minutes of light
weight lifting, while working each major muscle group for at least 4
minutes. Alternating on and off the bike to accommodate the body
building and toning portion of the workout. . This workout is for the
rider looking to both burn fat and build muscle at the same time.
Studies support the evidence that metabolic rate (the speed at which the
body burns calories) is accelerated when more muscle groups are engaged
during a workout.
Spin
& Sculpt (Circuit Training) -
A rigorous combo class (modeling a circuit
training session in a gym) including intervals of cardio training on the
Spin bike and upper and lower body muscle conditioning off the bike.
Employs light weights for arm, shoulder and chest work and includesg
core exercises on mats next to bike. Resistance bands are used as an
adjunct to free weights. All fitness levels are encouraged to
participate. This class is NOT recommended for the entry level spinner
(under 3 months of experience).
FAQs
Do
you provide lockers and showers? Locker and shower facilities are
provided by Bodyfit Gym for our Coventry studio. Currently we have
changing rooms but do not have shower facilities at our North Providence
location.
Do
you provide towels and water? We do provide you with
a complimentary Spin-Works towel as a new member, however, you are
expected to provide your own towel and bottle of water for each class.
What
brand of bikes do you use? We use Spinner® brand
NXT model studio bikes. After testing several models, we felt that the
Spinner® brand provided the best combination of design and performance
for a wide range of multiple users in the spin class environment. We
have also found the maintenance support provided by Spinner® has always
kept our bikes in top notch operating condition.
What
type of monitors are provided on the bikes? All bikes are fitted
with the StarTrac® studio bike monitor. This monitor provides continuous
read out of RPM, Time, Miles Traveled, Heart Rate in Beats per minute,
and a final estimate of Total Calories burned. The Heart Rate
monitoring portion does require a user-supplied transmitter belt. The
monitors are compatible with the Polar® brand and some other brands. We
do have transmitter belts available for purchase or you can purchase
them elsewhere.
How
many calories will I burn? Estimates of calories
burned range from 300-900, depending upon the intensity of your workout.
Conservatively, we estimate that the average person burns 500-600
calories in an average workout.
I've
never taken a spin class before...
Will I be able to keep up with the group?
First and foremost - It's Your Ride! Its not a competition and
you should plan on working at a pace and intensity that is right for
you. Our instructors will try to push and motivate you and they will
include exercise routines that will provide variety and keep you
interested. Although most of the class will follow along with the
instructor routines, you will frequently see riders who are taking
their own departures from the instruction for their own purposes. It's
their own ride too!
What do I need to bring? As mentioned above,
bring a small towel for use during the ride and about a quart of
water. Many riders wear padded bike shorts or use a cushioned gel seat
for comfort. You should wear light work out attire and stiff soled
workout shoes.
Do
I need special shoes? Special
shoes are not required but bike shoes with SPD clips will promote a
more effective workout. You will notice that most regular class
members do use bike shoes. These may be purchased at most local bike
shops.
